tRAIN CAR

Manufactured in February 1945 by the American Car & Foundry Company in Missouri, this railcar was initially built as a hospital train car. It transported military service members from coastal ports to hospitals like the Bushnell Army Hospital in Brigham City. Later modifications were made to the railcar so that it could be used as a guard car.

AFL fell in love with the story, texture, and beauty of the battered and abandoned army green railcar. It was used for storage at Smith & Edwards warehouse in Ogden, UT before it was purchased and moved to Logan.

This is an active AFL project and it is currently being repurposed for a second life. We are in the process of answering the question, “What could it be—office suite, hospitality accommodation, food establishment?” The search is underway to pair this iconic structure with the right proprietor.
